About Us

Opened in 1967, the Berry O. Waddy Funeral Home is owned and operated by Berry O. Waddy. The funeral home has served families of the Northern Neck of Virginia during times of grief and need for almost forty years.

Son of the late Georgianna D. and Robert H. Waddy, Berry is a 1961 graduate of Brookvale High School. Berry enrolled in Eckel’s Mortuary School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he received an Applied Science Degree. Upon completing the required accredited program in Mortuary Science, he served a two year apprenticeship at the A.D. Price, Jr. Funeral Home in Richmond, Virginia.

In 1965, Berry passed the State Board examination in fulfillment of a funeral service license in the state of Virginia. He is also a member of Virginia Funeral Directors Association and a former member of the Virginia Morticians Association. Today, Berry is licensed as an embalmer and a funeral service provider not only in Virginia, but also in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Berry is a member and Deacon of Willie Chapel Baptist Church, in Merry Point where he is active in church affairs. He, nevertheless, is frequently seen attending services and special programs at churches throughout the Northern Neck of Virginia.

He is member of the Lancaster County Social Services Board; a member of the Northumberland County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and a member of the Bay Trust Bank Board.

Mr. Waddy's first wife of many years, Francine Savoy Waddy, is deceased. He is now married to the former Lillian Handy. Berry is the proud father of two children: ShaNa', a graduate of Old Dominion University, and a graduate of Norfolk State University Mortuary Science Certificate Program and is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Virginia; and LaMont, a telecommunications specialist in Richmond.
